OVERVIEW OF VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
HOME TOUR Docents and Hosts: Volunteers are needed as docents and hosts for Claremont Heritage’s Historic Claremont Home Tour, held on the 2nd Sunday each October. Note: be sure to sign up early as this opportunity generally fills up well in advance of event. The tour’s theme varies, featuring a noted architect or an architectural era or style. Volunteers for these events attend a special training at the house to which they are assigned prior to the tour. Docents share scripted material and background with tour goers, while hosts are present to help guests move throughout each property. Volunteer shifts are usually 2-1/2 to 3 hours in length. Before and or after an assigned shift, volunteers are welcome to view the other homes on tour as our guests. Volunteer outreach for all events is circulated at least 3 months in advance and requests are then filled on a first-come, first-served basis; so please reply early to receive your preferred assignments. Claremont Farmers & Artisans Market: Meet and greet visitors. Encourage membership in Claremont Heritage. Promote Gift Gallery merchandise. We have a booth once-a-month at this popular event in the Claremont Village. Office Volunteers: Volunteers with office skills and experience are needed to help with telephones, mailings, data entry, and other administrative tasks, especially during busy event times. Flexible hours are available. Oral History Project: Volunteers are needed to research and record video interviews with Claremont area residents from all walks of life. Training and equipment is provided. Archive Organization and Digitization: Volunteers are needed to help our Archivist in the cataloguing, indexing and digitization of our archival materials. Volunteers need to be organized and familiar with computer programs such as Microsoft Office and imaging software such as Photoshop. Event Ticket Sales: Volunteer opportunities are available in Event Ticket Sales and Will Call prior to and during all Claremont Heritage events. Duties include: taking ticket orders and payments in person or over the phone, filling, processing and mailing orders. Membership Outreach During Claremont Heritage Events: Volunteers greet event guests and answer questions regarding Claremont Heritage membership and our programs at designated event membership tables. Volunteers collect guest contact information and sign-up new members who join during the event. Claremont Walking Tour Docents: Discover or deepen your knowledge of the fascinating architectural history of Claremont by leading small groups through the beautiful and thriving Claremont Historic District. Docent training is provided for a 2 - 2-1/2 hour walking tour highlighting Claremont's Historic Village (First Saturday of every month) or the Colleges (Quarterly). Special Event Planning Committee: Annual Gala Event A planning committee for the annual Claremont Heritage Gala Fundraiser forms in September to plan this signature Claremont Heritage event held in Spring. Come join this enthusiastic group of volunteers as they prepare for Claremont Heritage’s annual fundraiser and community tradition. Planning areas include: entertainment, beverages, food vendors and Silent Auction and more. Volunteers interested in this committee should note the 10 month commitment. |
